One of the largest landslides in the world occurred at Usoy, Tajikistan, in 1911. The Usoy landslide was triggered by an earthquake that displaced over 1.5 cubic miles of material and pushed up a natural dam half again as high as the Empire State Building on the Murgob River. Today, the earthen dam contains a lake that is over 40 miles long.
